Arcadia vineyards are run by father and daughter, Ozcan and Zeynep Arca. Their 35 hectares, situated in Thrace in the far north-west of Turkey produce grapes of excellent ripeness, lively acidity and notably bright aromatics.
In mythology, Arcadia means ‘Heaven on Earth’ and their approach to viticulture is suitably light touch, sustainable and environmentally sensitive. Combining modern means with traditional methods, the winery is designed to use gravity flow and minimise pumping. All wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered and made with minimum manipulation.
The first requirement for making special wines is growing special grapes. The nine varieties planted were selected to bring forth the full potential of the terroir and include white grapes Sauvignon Gris, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and the indigenous Narince. Red varieties are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and the native Öküzgözü.
